Federation Cup draw sets up intriguing path for Yanga, Simba

THE Federation Cup Round of 32 draw has set up a series of intriguing fixtures, with defending giants Young Africans SC (Yanga) and Simba SC handed different opponents as they begin their quest for silverware this season.

The draw, conducted by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), has mapped out the pathway to the Round of 16, outlining potential matchups for teams aiming to progress deeper into the knockout competition.

Record champions Young Africans will open their campaign against Polisi Tanzania in the Round of 32. Should the reigning holders navigate past that hurdle, they will face the winner of the tie between Tanzania Prisons and TMA Stars in the Round of 16. The fixture presents a competitive test for the Jangwani Street based side, who remain the most successful club since the tournament’s reintroduction in the 2015/2016 season.

Simba, three time winners of the competition since its revival, have been drawn against B19 FC in their opening Round of 32 clash. If they secure passage to the next stage, the Msimbazi Street giants will meet either Dodoma Jiji or African Sports in the Round of 16. The draw sets up a potentially challenging route, particularly if Dodoma Jiji progress, given their growing reputation in domestic competitions.

Elsewhere, Azam FC will take on Mbeya Kwanza in the Round of 32. A victory would see them advance to face the winner between Fountain Gate and Gunners FC in the next round. Former champions Mtibwa Sugar have been paired with Mbuni FC, with the victor of that encounter scheduled to meet either JKT Tanzania or Hausung FC in the Round of 16.

The Round of 32 fixtures promise action across the country. Mbeya City will host Bandari Tanzania, while TRA United lock horns with Kijiwe Nongwa. Pamba Jiji FC are set to face Transit Camp, and Mashujaa FC will meet KenGold in another intriguing tie. Singida Black Stars have been drawn against Songea United, while Geita Gold will battle Nyika FC. Coastal Union are scheduled to play Stand United, and Namungo will clash with Kagera Sugar.

According to TFF Competitions Officer Baraka Kizuguto, the Round of 32 matches are scheduled to be played between March 6 and 8, with the Round of 16 fixtures set for April 9 to 11. The compact schedule ensures that teams must quickly shift focus between league commitments and knockout action.

Since the Federation Cup was officially reinstated in the 2015/2016 season, only four clubs have lifted the trophy. Young Africans lead the honors list with five titles, followed by Simba with three. Azam FC and Mtibwa Sugar have each claimed the trophy once during that period, underlining the competitive yet concentrated nature of the tournament’s recent history.

With the fixtures now confirmed, attention turns to preparation and strategy as clubs from the top flight and lower divisions eye a deep run in one of Tanzania’s most prestigious knockout competitions. The Round of 32 draw has set the stage for compelling matchups, and as the dates approach, anticipation continues to build among fans eager to see which teams will seize their opportunity and advance toward the coveted Federation Cup crown.
