Absa Bank Tanzania on Wednesday hosted a prizes handover ceremony at its Mikocheni Branch, officially concluding the Play Your Cards Right customer rewards campaign with the presentation of the Grand Prize and cash to monthly winners.

Speaking at the ceremony, Obedi Laiser, Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania, said: “This campaign has been about rewarding our customers for embracing convenient, safe and secure digital banking. Beyond the prizes, we are proud of the positive shift we’ve seen toward cashless transactions, which save time, reduce risk, and support financial inclusion. Today’s ceremony marks the successful conclusion of a campaign that truly changed lives.”

“Our purpose is clear — Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together… one story at a time. Every campaign, every innovation, and every reward we offer is driven by our belief that your story matters,” said Laiser.

The campaign recorded strong uptake of card and digital transactions, demonstrating the growing preference for anytime, anywhere banking that reduces the need for branch visits and long queues while offering greater speed, safety, and convenience.

During the event, Laiser presented a dummy cheque of 30m/- to Nasreen Karim Abdallah, the grand prize winner, who was selected through a transparent raffle draw held on 21 January 2026.

The MD also handed over symbolic cheques to the monthly winners: Abdulrazak Ali Seif –10m/-, Aysha Mbarak Meghji –5m/-, and Gibbons Samuel Katule –3m/-.

He also confirmed that all prize money has been credited directly into the winners’ Absa accounts, in line with the campaign’s Terms and Conditions.

The campaign ran from October to December 2025 and was designed to encourage customers to adopt digital and cashless banking by using Absa debit and credit cards for everyday transactions.

Over the three-month period, the campaign rewarded 72 weekly winners, 9 monthly winners, and 1 Grand Prize Winner - returning a total of 120m/- to customers across the country.

Commenting on the campaign impact, Ndabu Swere, Director of Retail Banking, noted: “Play your cards right campaign showed us how powerful simple, everyday transactions can be. Customers responded positively, embraced digital channels, and in return, we were able to reward their loyalty in a meaningful way.”

She said the bank has reaffirmed its commitment to continued innovation and customer rewards, building on past initiatives where the Bank awarded three cars in 2024 and 120m/- in cash prizes in 2025.

On her part, the winner Nasreen expressed her appreciation to the Bank, noting that the win was a meaningful milestone for her, and highlighting the ease of participating through everyday card and digital transactions.

“What stood out for me is how simple it was to participate, just using my card for daily transactions. This reward does not only reinforce the value of embracing digital banking in our everyday lives, but it is also life changing!” she added.
