The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr.Doto Biteko is expected to grace this year’s 23rd edition of the prestigious Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon scheduled for Sunday February 23, 2025.

According to the organizers of the Kilimanjaro Marathon, the Deputy Prime Minister has confirmed participation and other national and regional leaders will accompany him.

“He is expected to flag off the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International 42km, YASKili International Half Marathon and later participate in the CRDB 5km Fun Run,” said the organizers.

According to the organizers all is set as the People’s Expo which is happening for the fourth year, bringing together marathon sponsors and other businesses to showcase their products and services, opening on Friday, the 21st February and continuing through to Race Day on the 23rd February.

The organizers said that Race Number and Kit collection will take place during this time too.  Runners can come to the MoCU Stadium in Moshi, from Thursday February 20 (12noon to 5pm), Friday February 21 (10am to 6pm) and Saturday February 22 (from 9am to 5pm).The organizers called on the participants to observe the announced times to avoid inconveniences and also called on those collecting numbers for their friends or relatives to ensure they have copies of their identity cards and consent letters allowing the representatives to collect on their behalf.

“It is our hope that the participants will turn up in numbers at this collection point as no numbers will be issued on the race day or after hours,” said the organizers, adding that participants can get more information by visiting www.kilimanjaromarathon.com.

Meanwhile the collection exercise starts in Dar es Salaam this week on February 14, 2025 at the Mlimani City Mall (In front of SamakiSamaki) from 4pm – 7pm, on Saturday February 15 from 10am – 6pm and Sunday February 16 from 10am – 6pm.

After Dar es Salaam, the exercise will move to Arusha on Tuesday February 18 and Wednesday February 19 from 2pm – 7 pm at the Kibo Palace Hotel.

The organizers, have in another development, warned against those intending to run with fake numbers, which includes previous years’ numbers saying they will be removed from the route and arrested. Same applies to those running with other people’s numbers, they will be disqualified from the marathon.

“We also warn those who are illegally selling numbers online. We will take legal action against them,” said the organizers.

Similarly, the organisers have issued a stern warning to any ambush marketing of competitive brands, services or products to their official sponsors.  This included companies trying to brand on route as well as participating runners using apparel and banners as marketing tools while participating in their respective events, they will be disqualified.  Only official sponsors, partners and suppliers may use the marathon as a platform to market and promote themselves.
