The British High Commission in Tanzania has pledged to continue supporting international development, reaffirming its strong partnership with Tanzania despite the U.S. aid cuts.

British High Commissioner Marianne Young made the statement during a visit to IPP media outlets in Dar es Salaam today February 12, 2025.

The envoy emphasized that while the U.S. reviews its aid strategy, the UK remains dedicated to humanitarian and development efforts in Tanzania.

“The aid reduction is clearly a matter for the U.S. government. On the UK side, we are committed to continuing our international development and humanitarian efforts here. We see this as an integral partnership, not only with the government of Tanzania but also with the region,” she said.

She also revealed plans to boost UK-Tanzania trade by 100m pounds (more than 270bn/-), focusing on sectors like energy, hydropower, and telecoms.

A London Stock Exchange delegation will visit Tanzania to strengthen investment ties and provide Tanzanian businesses with access to global financial networks. Additionally, Tanzania benefits from the UK’s tariff-free access for exporters.
