SIMBA SC are on the verge of completing a deal to sell striker Kibu Denis to Libyan giants Al Nasr, with the transfer expected to be finalized at any moment.
Sources close to the Dar es Salaam-based club have confirmed that negotiations between Simba and Al Nasr have reached an advanced stage, with only a few final details remaining before the move is officially sealed.
According to the source, both clubs have already agreed on the terms of the transfer, paving the way for the Tanzanian international to begin a new chapter in his career in North Africa.
“Kibu is heading to Libya. The club has already reached an agreement to sell him and there are just a few minor issues left before the transfer is completed,” a source within Simba revealed.
This marks the second time Al Nasr have made a serious move for Kibu (pictured). The Libyan side initially expressed strong interest during the main transfer window before the start of the current season, but their efforts at the time failed to materialize into a deal. However, Al Nasr have returned with renewed determination, a factor that has played a key role in convincing Simba to part ways with the striker.
Simba’s decision to sell Kibu now is largely influenced by the status of his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the current season. With the forward approaching the final months of his deal, the Msimbazi Reds are keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer. By sanctioning his move at this stage, Simba stand to gain financially rather than risk seeing the player walk away without compensation once his contract runs out.
The club’s hierarchy is understood to have carefully weighed their options before agreeing to the sale, especially given the importance of squad stability as Simba continue to compete on multiple fronts this season. However, the prospect of securing a transfer fee now, combined with Kibu’s contract situation, has tipped the balance in favour of completing the deal.
Should the transfer go through as expected, Kibu will reunite with two familiar faces at Al Nasr - midfielder Fabrice Ngoma and striker Steven Mukwala. Both players featured for Simba in recent seasons before making their respective moves to the Libyan club. Their presence is expected to ease Kibu’s transition and help him settle quickly into his new environment.
Despite the imminent transfer, Kibu remains part of Simba’s travelling squad for their ongoing CAF Champions League campaign. The striker is currently in Angola with the team, where Simba are preparing for a crucial group stage encounter against Petro de Luanda scheduled to be played today.
It remains unclear whether the move to Al Nasr will be completed before or after this fixture, but sources suggest the deal could be finalized at any time.
On the domestic front, Al Nasr are enjoying an impressive run of form in the Libyan Premier League. The club currently sits top of Group Four with 21 points, having recorded a perfect record of seven wins from seven matches played so far this season. Their strong league performance highlights the ambition and competitiveness of the Libyan side, factors that are believed to have appealed to Kibu as he considers the next step in his career.
From Simba’s perspective, Kibu’s contributions this season have largely come on the continental stage. The striker has scored two goals for the club this campaign, both of which were registered in the CAF Champions League. He found the back of the net during the first round encounter against Eswatini side Nsingizini Hotspurs, a match Simba won convincingly 3-0. Those goals proved vital in helping the Tanzanian champions progress in the competition.
While his overall goal tally this season may appear modest, Kibu has remained an important squad member, offering depth and experience in Simba’s attacking department. His potential departure will therefore require careful planning as the club looks to maintain its competitive edge both locally and in continental competitions.
As the final details of the transfer are ironed out, all signs point to Kibu completing his move to Al Nasr in the coming days. If confirmed, the deal will mark another notable transfer involving Simba and North African clubs, underlining the growing market value of players developed and nurtured in Tanzanian football.
