UGANDA's U-19 women's cricket squad garnered a nine-run victory over Tanzania in the 2024 Bilateral T20 Series match at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala on Tuesday.

The clash witnessed the Uganda U-19 women's cricket team post a competitive 102/5 in their 20 overs after taking the crease first.

Asumin Akurut was the top run-getter for the batting squad, notching 33 runs, and Giringish Nabulime chipped in with two-digit figures- making her way back with 19 runs.

Patricia Timong ended with eight runs as the Uganda U-19 women's cricket team battled to end with a better total.

Maria Lucas ended as Tanzania's U-19 women's cricket team's only bowler with a significant contribution, when the team fielded, given the cricketer posted 3-8 in her four-over stint.

Zakia Ally (1-17) and Farida Amiry (1-28) were the squad's other bowlers that managed to make their presence felt.

In response, Tanzania's U-19 women's cricket team faced difficulties in their chase and, ultimately, ended up posting 69 runs all out in 18.2 overs.

Farida, once again, showcased her all-round competence after nailing an impressive 33 runs for her team. Skipper Jeniffer Gabriel sought to improve the team's total with her 28 runs and Maria chipped in with six runs.

The remainder of the batting unit though could hardly step up, having been dismissed with less convincing scores.

Uganda's U-19 women's squad's Irene Mutoni led the squad's attack with 3-13 to thwart Tanzania's U-19 female cricketers' chase.

Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Media and Communication Officer Atif Salim revealed that though it was a tough defeat, Tanzania's U-19 women's cricket team displayed moments of brilliance and determination.

With some matches still to play, Salim stated, there is plenty of time for the youthful Tanzania female cricketers to regroup and come back stronger.

The showdown was scheduled to begin at the same venue on Monday but the opening-day encounter could hardly be held because of a downpour, which rendered the venue unplayable.
