Construction of power transmission line from JNHPP reaches 99percent

CONSTRUCTION of the electricity transmission line from the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) has reached 99.5 percent.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga unveiled this over the weekend when speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Minerals when it visited the construction of an electric cooling station in Chalinze, Coastal Region.

Kapinga thanked the members of the Parliamentary Committee for the monitoring and inspection of the project which is of wide interest to the entire nation and promised to continue to work on the instructions given by the members. 

"This project has been 100 percent funded by the Government and the cost of the construction of the electricity transmission line is 158bn/ whose implementation has reached 99.5 percent. Also, the cost of the construction of the Chalinze cooling station is 128bn/ whose implementation has reached 93.7 percent," said Kapinga.

Newton Mwakifwamba, Chalinze cooling station project manager said that the completion of the station's project will help strengthen the availability of electricity and strengthen the infrastructure to receive electricity and feed it into the National Grid.

The Vice Chairman of the Committee, Kirumbe Ng'enda expressed his satisfaction with the speed of construction of the Chalinze cooling station project which includes the construction of a 400-kilowatt power transmission line from JNHPP to Chalinze.

"We congratulate President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the great work she is doing by continuing to implement energy projects, the construction speed of this project has increased from 55 percent last year to 93.7 percent this year," said Kirumbe

He said the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the Tanzania Electric Co. Ltd (TANESCO) has done a great job in implementing the project where the construction of the mechanical building has been completed by 100 percent.

He explained that the completion of the project will further strengthen the availability of electricity in the country and the rest will be sold abroad when the demand is sufficient.
