Rosatom launches the 8th “Atoms Empowering Africa” video competition.

ROSATOM, the Russian state-owned nuclear corporation, has launched the 8th edition of its annual “Atoms Empowering Africa” online video competition.

This year’s initiative is dedicated to celebrating 80 years of Russia’s nuclear industry, aiming to inspire young Africans to explore the vast potential of nuclear technologies in shaping the continent's sustainable future.

Ryan Collyer, CEO of Rosatom Central and Southern Africa, expressed that the competition provides an exceptional platform for young innovators across Africa to engage with science and technology.

"As we celebrate 80 years of Russia’s nuclear industry, we recognise the immense potential nuclear technology holds for the future. The ‘Atoms Empowering Africa’ competition has become a powerful opportunity for young African creators to explore how nuclear energy can drive innovation, sustainability, and prosperity on the continent."

He invited students, young professionals and professors aged 18 to 35 to participate by submitting videos that illustrate how nuclear energy can contribute to Africa’s growth and development. “Participants are encouraged to reflect on three key themes: “The Honour of the Past,” “The Inspiration of the Present,” and “The Dream of the Future,” which together highlight nuclear technologies' role in fostering global progress.”

Participants can submit their videos until 31 March 2025. Detailed rules and guidelines are available on the official Rosatom Africa Facebook page.

The competition aims to foster a deeper understanding of nuclear energy's transformative potential, linking Africa’s past, present, and future while encouraging fresh perspectives on the role of nuclear power in achieving sustainable development.
