More than 1,500 young people from Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Arusha have benefited from training on running businesses digitally to enhance their income and economic growth.

Seventy percent of the participants were women, while 30 percent were men. The training was conducted under the Going Beyond project, implemented by the non-governmental organization Her Initiative.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Ephraim Malima, a youth leader from the institute, emphasized the importance of empowering young people as they represent the nation's future workforce and economic drivers.

"We have invested in the youth because they are the foundation of tomorrow’s economy. They will manage trade, increase national income, and contribute to overall economic growth," he said.

Malima, who also facilitated the training, highlighted the significance of digital literacy in today’s fast-evolving technological landscape. "Young people can easily adopt digital systems to grow their businesses, as the world is increasingly reliant on technology," he added.

He also noted that the program intentionally targeted women, with a 70 percent participation policy, to bridge gender disparities in entrepreneurship. "We believe that empowering young women fosters gender equality and enables them to drive positive change in society," Malima said.

Since the project's inception, 95 percent of participants have reported positive changes in their business operations, particularly in utilizing social media for marketing and financial management.

Crispine Karengi, one of the graduates of the Going Beyond program, shared how the training had improved her business. "I have learned how to manage business records and effectively use social media to attract more customers," she said.

Similarly, Irine Yusuph, another participant, expressed her appreciation for the skills acquired. "After this training, I have started using digital tools to advertise my business and generate more profit," she stated.

The Going Beyond project continues to equip young entrepreneurs with essential digital skills, fostering innovation and economic empowerment among Tanzania’s youth.
