Zanzibar's Second Vice President Commends Tigo Zantel Marathon

THE Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, has congratulated the organizers of the Zanzibar International Marathon for promoting the economic growth of Zanzibar.

He also stated that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, through the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports, and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, will continue to create a favorable environment for sports on the islands and enhance tourist attractions to promote Zanzibar internationally.

The Vice President made these remarks on behalf of the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, during the awards presentation for participants of the marathon held at Forodhani grounds in Zanzibar city.

"For a long time, Zanzibar has focused on seasonal tourism, which has helped attract many tourists to visit historical sites such as the old town and coastal areas. A total of 630,000 tourists visited Zanzibar in 2024," Abdulla said.

Additionally, he mentioned that the government plans to build a new football stadium for the AFCON 2027 competition and to undertake significant renovations of the New Amani Complex and Gombani Stadium in Pemba to meet international standards and promote Zanzibar through sports and tourism.

For his part, the chairman of the international marathon, Hassan Mussa, expressed appreciation to the President of Zanzibar for improving sports infrastructure by enhancing and building new modern sports facilities and athlete-friendly roads.

He stated that Tigo Zantel, in collaboration with other stakeholders of the Zanzibar International Marathon, will continue to support President Mwinyi's efforts to strengthen the sports sector in the country. Over the next ten years of his leadership, they aim to improve these competitions to make them a major tourist attraction for visitors coming to Zanzibar.
