YANGA’s president Hersi Said and the squad’s Executive Committee have announced free entry for the upcoming CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, scheduled for March 30 at 9 pm in Dar es Salaam.
Yanga’s Information and Communication Manager, Ally Kamwe, explained that the decision was made with fans in mind.
Recognizing the late-night kickoff and the additional travel expenses supporters might incur returning home, the club opted to prioritize fan presence over ticket revenue.
While initially announcing ticket prices for VIP sections (A- 30,000/-, B- 20,000/-, C- 10,000/-), Yanga has taken a surprising turn.
In a move prioritizing fan presence over more revenue, the club offered free entry for the regular stand for the fans that will access it in the upcoming CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We understand the late-night timing presents challenges for our fans, they will likely face transportation costs after the match,” Kamwe said.
“The Yanga leadership is not driven by greed. While some might see this as a money-making opportunity with high ticket prices, we believe in a different approach,” Kamwe noted.
Kamwe emphasized the importance of fan support in boosting team morale, noting: “A packed stadium fuels the players’ passion. Therefore, the club has chosen to prioritize victory over financial gain. We want as many fans as possible to come and cheer on Yanga.” he continued.
This decision highlights Yanga’s commitment to accessibility and fan engagement.
“Under president Hersi Said’s leadership, we’ve designated this match as free entry for all fans,” declared Kamwe.
The official disclosed: “The value of witnessing Yanga take on Mamelodi Sundowns far outweighs any ticket revenue. The money you would’ve spent on a ticket can now be used for transportation to and from the stadium, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.”
Kamwe urged fans traveling from afar to take advantage of the early gate opening, pointing out: “The gates will be open well before kickoff, come early and show your unwavering support for our team!”
Yanga’s decision is a bold move that prioritizes fan experience and team spirit over profit.
This free entry initiative is sure to generate excitement and pack the stadium, creating an electric atmosphere for this crucial match against Mamelodi Sundowns.
