Young Africans have been in superb form, winning four of their last five league matches and drawing one. They currently sit atop the table with 45 points from 17 matches, having won 15 games and lost only two.

REIGNING Premier League champions Young Africans SC (Yanga) will take on JKT Tanzania today, aiming to extend their dominance at the top of the league table.

The match kicks off at 4:15 PM East African Time at Major Isamuhyo Stadium in Mbweni, Dar es Salaam.

Young Africans enter the fixture brimming with confidence after a commanding 6-1 victory over KenGold FC, a result that solidified their position at the top of the table.

Their closest rivals, Simba SC, were held to a 1-1 draw against Fountain Gate FC, allowing Young Africans to widen the gap in the title race.

While Young Africans are clear favourites based on recent form, JKT Tanzania have proven to be a resilient side in the past. Last season, they held Young Africans to a goalless draw and will be eager to cause another upset today.

In their first-round encounter earlier this season, Young Africans secured a 2-0 victory over JKT Tanzania, with goals from Pacome Zouzoua and Clatous Chama. However, JKT Tanzania have shown significant improvement and will be determined to challenge the league leaders.

Young Africans have been in superb form, winning four of their last five league matches and drawing one. They currently sit atop the table with 45 points from 17 matches, having won 15 games and lost only two.

Their attacking prowess has been evident, scoring 42 goals so far this season. Striker Clement Mzize leads Young Africans’ goal-scoring charts with nine goals, followed closely by Prince Dube and Pacome Zouzoua, both with seven goals.

JKT Tanzania, on the other hand, have endured a mixed season. They currently have 19 points after four wins, seven draws, and six losses. Despite their struggles, they remain a tricky opponent, especially when playing against top teams.

This match marks the debut of Miloud Hamdi (pictured) as Young Africans' head coach following the departure of Sead Ramovic, who left to join CR Belouizdad.

The Algerian tactician is keen to make an immediate impact and ensure Young Africans continue their winning momentum.

Speaking ahead of the match, Hamdi expressed confidence in his squad while acknowledging the challenge JKT Tanzania poses:

“We know the match will be tough, but we will do everything to secure three points. I respect JKT Tanzania; they are a good team that plays attractive football. However, we have prepared well and are determined to get the win,” he said.

Hamdi also emphasized the importance of consistency:

“Yes, we scored six goals in our last game, but that was because we have a quality squad. Our main focus is to perform well in every match. The key objective now is to secure three points, regardless of the number of goals we score.”

Recognizing the challenge of playing JKT Tanzania on their home turf, Hamdi stressed the importance of early preparations to ensure Young Africans remain in top form and maintain their lead in the league.

“I'm thrilled to be leading this team, one of the best in the country and on the continent. I have the privilege of working with the league's top players, and their dominant 6-1 win last week proves their talent, composure, and determination.

“At this early stage, I won't be making drastic tactical changes. I'll be observing the current starting lineup and existing tactics to maintain momentum while gradually incorporating my own approach,” he stated.

Young Africans defender Kibwana Shomari urged fans to turn up in large numbers to support the team:

“We call on our supporters to come in huge numbers. This is an important match, and their presence gives us the motivation to perform even better. We promise to fight for victory.”

Shomari also stressed the team’s commitment to executing the technical bench's plans:

“Every player understands the importance of this match. Our responsibility is to follow the coach’s instructions and ensure we get the three points.”

Following today’s clash, Young Africans will shift their focus to upcoming league fixtures, which include KMC FC (away), Singida Black Stars (home), Mashujaa FC (away), and Pamba Jiji FC (away).

As the title race intensifies, Young Africans will be determined to maintain their momentum and stay ahead of their rivals in the Premier League standings.

With league leadership at stake, the Jangwani Street-based outfit will aim to secure another crucial victory today. However, JKT Tanzania will not make it easy, given their history of frustrating top teams.
