Yanga crush Mashujaa FC 5-0 to extend league lead

YOUNG Africans extended their lead at the top of the Mainland Premier League with a dominant 5-0 victory over Mashujaa FC at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma yesterday.

The defending champions led 1-0 at halftime before unleashing a relentless attacking display in the second half, scoring four more goals to strengthen their position at the summit.

Young Africans now sit five points clear at the top with 55 points from 21 matches, ahead of their arch-rivals Simba SC, who play later today.

The visitors signaled their attacking intent early on, with Duke Abuya's powerful strike from 25 yards flying over the bar in the 4th minute. 

In the 13th minute, Stephane Aziz Ki came close but was denied by the post after heading a cross from Chadrack Boka.

After missing a couple of chances, Young Africans finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when holding midfielder Abuya slotted home the opening goal.

The Jangwani-based side continued to press forward, with Clement Mzize failing to connect a cross from Prince Dube inside the six-yard box.

The second half saw Young Africans shift into top gear, doubling their lead in the 46th minute as Dube headed in a precise cross from Pacome Zouzoua.

Holding midfielder Khalid Aucho made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute, finishing off a well-delivered free kick from Pacome.

Aziz Ki missed a golden opportunity in the 66th minute, firing wide after a long pass from Aucho.

Substitute Clatous Chama added the fourth in the 76th minute, finishing a superb cross from Max Nzengeli, before completing his brace in the 82nd minute with a header off an Abuya cross.

Young Africans now have 55 points from 21 matches, with 18 wins, one draw, and two losses. Their impressive record includes 55 goals scored and only nine conceded, underlining both their attacking prowess and defensive strength.

They are closely followed by Simba SC, who have 50 points from 19 matches.

Mashujaa FC remain in eighth place with 23 points from 21 matches.
