SIMBA SC will look to close the gap on 2024/25 Premier League leaders Young Africans with a crucial victory over Namungo FC away in Ruangwa this evening.

The Msimbazi Reds remain the only serious challengers to Young Africans in the title race. Fadlu Davids’ side has built a strong unbeaten run, but a postponed match has allowed the gap between them and the Jangwani Street-based outfit to widen to five points.

Since their October defeat to Young Africans, Simba have been in outstanding domestic form, going 12 league matches unbeaten - winning 11 and drawing just once against Fountain Gate.

A positive result midweek would not only extend their streak but also reduce the gap to just two points in what is shaping up to be a tight race between the two Dar es Salaam giants.

Meanwhile, Young Africans will be watching from the sidelines, hoping Namungo FC can take points off Simba and aid their title defense.

Head coach Davids will rely on Leonel Ateba, Jean Charles Ahoua, and Stephen Mukwala to deliver the goals needed to secure a crucial win.

Namungo have won just three of their last 10 league matches, losing four times. Their home form has been a major concern, with only one victory in their last five matches at Majaliwa Stadium - the lowest home points tally of any team in the league this season.

Coach Juma Mgunda's side has shown signs of improvement in front of goal, scoring six times in their last five matches, but they still lack a consistent finisher.

Pius Buswita, the club’s top scorer, has managed just three goals so far.

The mid-season signing of Joshua Mwakaseba is expected to strengthen their attack. The former Tusker forward made an immediate impact, scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons. That strike took his season tally to five goals, including four he netted for KenGold before his transfer.
