OFFICIALS tasked with updating permanent voter register have been urged to carry out their duties in line with laws, regulations and guidelines provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ambassador Omari Ramadhan Mapuri, INEC Commissioner, made the call yesterday while concluding training for voter register update officials in Morogoro Region.
"You must perform your duties diligently," he said.
Mapuri encouraged the officials to use their spare time to read and review all the instructions they have received to foster their understanding of their roles and responsibilities as they implement the ongoing exercise.
During a similar training in Tanga, INEC Commissioner and High Court Judge Asina Omari urged officials to study the Constitution and relevant laws to ensure effective execution of their duties.
"Carefully study the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, the Electoral Act, the Voter Registration Regulations, and all guidelines issued by the commission to ensure your work is carried out with accuracy and fairness," she said.
Judge Omari reminded the officials of their responsibility to encourage eligible citizens to register and exercise their constitutional right to vote in the upcoming general election later this year.
The voter register update will take place in Morogoro and Tanga regions from March 1 to 7. Registration centres will open at 8:00 am and close at 6:00 pm.
