DESPITE securing three consecutive victories while maintaining a clean sheet in each match, Pamba Jiji head coach Fred Felix ‘Minziro’ has emphasized the need for sharper finishing to strengthen the team's position in the league standings.

The 1990 Union League champions began their recent resurgence with a 1-0 away win against Dodoma Jiji, followed by another 1-0 victory over Azam at CCM Kirumba, and a 2-0 triumph against Coastal Union at the same venue.

After spending much of the first round of the Premier League in 16th and 15th place, Pamba Jiji have now recorded two losses and three straight wins in their last five matches.

The Mwanza-based side made a coaching change in October, parting ways with Goran Kopunovic and appointing Minziro, who has since led them to five wins.

January's mini transfer window signings have significantly improved the team’s defensive stability, but clinical finishing remains a concern.

Ahead of their match against Mashujaa, Minziro stressed the importance of converting chances into goals.

"I'm delighted with our current position in the league. We've worked hard to get here since I arrived. However, we need to score more goals. Looking at the table, the points are close - one draw or loss can push you toward a relegation playoff spot. That’s why scoring is crucial.

"We must focus on ourselves as we prepare to face Mashujaa. They haven’t won in their last eight games and have struggled to score, but that doesn’t mean they won’t turn things around against us. We need to be prepared, put on a good performance, and remain strong both offensively and defensively," he said.

While pleased with the team’s recent performances, Minziro highlighted concerns over fixture congestion, which has left little time for preparation and recovery.

"Fatigue is a significant challenge, but there’s no way around it - we must compete. Right now, we are scheduled to play in Kigoma against Mashujaa on February 19. Just four days earlier, on February 15, we played a match.

“That leaves us with only two days of preparation before we travel for another two days. We have to push through and fight for another three points," said the tactician.

Minziro also praised Pamba Jiji’s passionate supporters, acknowledging their role in motivating the players.

"We appreciate our fans and the people of Mwanza for coming out in large numbers. Their support gives us immense motivation, and you can see how the players fight for every ball, even when they are exhausted," he added.

Currently, Pamba Jiji sit in 8th place in the league standings with 21 points from 19 matches, having recorded five wins, six draws, and eight losses.
