AZAM FC has decided to make significant changes to its squad registration, temporarily taking goalkeepers Abdulai Idrissu and Ali Ahamada out of the team due to the prolonged injuries the two shot-stoppers suffered in the previous year.
Idrissu, recovering from an injury on his left arm, underwent surgery in South Africa while Ahamada is undergoing further medical examinations in France for a knee injury on his left leg.
The first-choice goalkeepers, facing an estimated recovery time of four to five months, have been replaced in the registration to accommodate the arrival of new signings aimed at fortifying the team during the mini-registration window.
The club has secured the services of Sudanese goalkeeper Mohamed Mustafa from Al-Merrikh of Sudan, central defender Yeison Fuentes from Leones FC, and striker Franklin Navarro, who comes from Cortulua FC in Colombia.
The adjustments in the squad reflect Azam FC’s proactive approach to strengthening key positions affected by injuries.
The introduction of Mustafa, Fuentes, and Navarro is expected to contribute to the team’s resilience and competitiveness in upcoming fixtures.
Alongside such changes, the club announced the departure of striker Idris Mbombo, who has officially joined Nkana which plays in the Zambia Super League.
This decision marks a strategic move in reshaping Azam FC’s composition and aligning with the squad's objectives for the future.
Azam FC is currently dominating the NBC Premier League, leading the league's table with 37 points from 16 games.
The league leader is just one point clear of closest challengers, Yanga, and is moreover boasting a six-game unbeaten streak.
Azam FC's offensive firepower is undeniable, as evidenced by recent wins- some of which are the 4-0 victory over Kagera Sugar, 5-0 over Kinondoni Municipal Council, and 5-0 defeat of Mtibwa Sugar.
The Chamazi-based Azam FC has conceded 10 goals throughout the current NBC Premier League season.
However, it is important to note that the club has so far played 13 games out of the total 30, and has not conceded any goal in the side's away games so far.
This means Azam FC's defense remains strong overall, despite the relatively few number of matches played.
Azam FC’s management remains committed to navigating through the challenges, adapting to unforeseen circumstances, and building a formidable squad capable of achieving success in domestic and continental competitions.
The ongoing restructuring underscores the club’s dedication to maintaining a competitive edge in various competitions.
