PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has outlined Tanzania’s stance on changes in U.S. aid policies under President Donald Trump’s administration, emphasizing the need for economic self-reliance.
Speaking in the Parliament in Dodoma today, Thursday, February 6, 2025, Majaliwa stated that the United States, through its Agency for International Development (USAID), has halted certain aid programs previously provided to Tanzania and other developing nations.
He noted that these changes are part of the new U.S. foreign policy approach, which could impact various sectors in the country.
“It is true that our government respects foreign policies and honors agreements with partner nations. However, we are beginning to witness shifts in policies from major global powers like the United States and these changes may affect countries including Tanzania,” he said.
Despite this, Majaliwa reaffirmed that Tanzania is committed to building a self-sustaining economy to reduce dependence on foreign aid.
