AZAM FC have arrived in Zanzibar, eager to maintain their winning streak as they face Simba SC in a highly anticipated Premier League match at the New Amaan Complex in Unguja tomorrow.

The Chamazi-based side heads into the match with momentum, following convincing victories over KMC (4-0) and Coastal Union (1-0) under the guidance of their Moroccan coach, Rachid Taoussi.

Taoussi (pictured), who started his tenure at Azam with a 0-0 draw against Pamba Jiji, has successfully implemented a 3-5-2 formation to address the team's balance issues, leading to improvements on the pitch.

This tactical adjustment has also seen the resurgence of players like Nathaniel Chilambo and Nassoro Saadun, who have regained their places in the starting lineup.

The upcoming match against Simba will be a significant test for Azam, especially as both teams are still in the process of integrating new players.

Simba, fresh from their CAF Confederation Cup victory over Al Ahli Tripoli, may hold a psychological advantage heading into the contest.

Azam's recent exit from the CAF Champions League, where they were eliminated in the first preliminary round by APR, still lingers. The tightly contested tie ended 4-3 on aggregate in APR's favor, dashing Azam's hopes of progressing further in the tournament.

For football fans in Zanzibar, this Premier League clash between Azam and Simba is a first. The match is being held at the New Amaan Complex due to ongoing renovations at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, offering Zanzibar fans a rare chance to witness these two Tanzanian giants face off in their home territory.

Azam FC spokesman Hashim Ibwe expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure a positive result against a revamped Simba squad.

“This match against Simba is another chance for our players to showcase their abilities. We’ve been in good form recently, with players like Nassoro Saadun and Feisal Salum being particularly impressive,” Ibwe said.

He continued: “Our fans in Unguja have always supported us, and we have a special bond with them. We’ve made history here before as champions of the Mapinduzi Cup, and we’re confident and motivated to replicate last season’s success.”

Azam arrived in Zanzibar well ahead of the match, with Simba expected to arrive today, just one day before the showdown.

Last season, both teams finished level on 66 points, but Azam edged out Simba to secure a spot in the CAF Champions League preliminary stages due to a superior goal difference, while Simba qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nassoro Saadun and Feisal Salum are expected to be key players for Azam in tomorrow’s encounter. There remains some uncertainty regarding Djibril Sillah’s participation, but Idd Nado is likely to retain his starting position.

The midfield is expected to feature a pivot of Adolf Mtasingwa and James Akamiko, while Chilambo and Pascal Msindo will provide width as wingbacks.

Defensively, Captain Lusajo Mwaikenda will lead a back three that includes Yoro Diaby and Yeison Fuentes, with Zuberi Foba standing guard between the posts.

Azam will be hoping to continue their strong form and add to their growing points tally early in the season, while Simba look to maintain their momentum from their recent continental success.

The stage is set for a thrilling encounter as these two Tanzanian giants battle it out in Zanzibar.
