Speak up against sexual violence, AMF tells community

THE community has been urged to report and speak up on sexual violence incidents so that to reduce the menace in the society.

Amina Aloyce, Mkuranga District Social Welfare Officer made the call in Mkuranga, Coast Region yesterday at an event organised by Asma Mwinyi Foundation (AMF) aimed at distributing female towels to Ali Hassan Mwinyi Secondary School students.

She said that there have been more than three types of sexual violence that children have generally been subjected to in different circumstances, with some of them failing to report to their guardians after it has been done.

"We are asking parents, citizens, and journalists to continue to help us raise our voice in condemning cruelty, to our children. Everyone knows that they have a responsibility to protect the child," emphasized Amina.

Asma Mwinyi, AMF director said that the donation aimed at enabling student to be attend class without any doubts, especially during their month period.

She added: "These efforts are largely to support the government's strategy in providing quality education to students without encountering any challenge," 

Omary Mwanga, Mkuranga District Administrative Secretary said the shown efforts are aimed at considering the importance of women and creating a good environment for children’s future. 

He said the government is also making a great effort to cooperate with progressive stakeholders like the institution in ensuring a friendly environment for students, since in the past it was seen that menstruation is a problem that causes students not to attend class.

"Working hard should be your key role so that the government and other institutions supporting don’t lose hope if you fail you will have failed them, I emphasize you to work hard," said Mwanga.
