SIMANJIRO District Council in Manyara Region has emerged the leader in allocation of nutrition funds for the 2024/2025 financial year.
As of January 30, the council disbursed funds at a rate of 71.7 percent of the target followed by Hanang District Council which allocated 62.3 percent.
January Dalushi, Manyara Regional Nutrition Officer, revealed this yesterday during a nutrition evaluation meeting for the period from July to December last year.
The officer explained that Simanjiro District Council had planned to collect 88.3m/- for nutrition purposes for children under five years old, and so far, it had disbursed 62.5m/- which represents 71.7 percent.
Hanang District Council had aimed to collect 84.6m/- and had disbursed 52.2m/-, equating to 62.3 percent.
Mbulu District Council planned to collect 80.7m/- and realised 46.8m/-, which is 62.0 percent. Mbulu Town collected 49.8m/-, disbursing 30.6m/-, or 61.6 percent.
Kiteto District Council planned to collect 123.9m/- but managed to realise 75.4m/- , which is 60.9 percent. Babati Town Council aimed to collect 30.7m/- but only realised 15.3m/-, equating to 49.9 percent.
Babati District Council ranked last, with a target of 97.2m/- but only collected 35.1m/-, which is 36.4 percent.
The officer also mentioned that all councils had aimed to collect a total of 555.5m/-, but so far, they had collected 318.5m/-, which is 58.1percent of the target.
Manyara Regional Commissioner Queen Sendiga directed all councils to ensure that they allocate nutrition funds in accordance with the guideline rather than as a discretionary matter.
The RC stressed that failure to comply with the directive would constitute a breach of instructions from President Samia Suluhu Hassan who signed a national nutrition agreement with all regional commissioners.
