PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan, has urged African nations to take firm control of their climate agenda by safeguarding their interests and developing innovative strategies to harness and protect the continent’s vast natural resources.

The Head of State made the remarks during a sideline meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), held in Addis Ababa yesterday.

President Samia emphasized that Africa must actively shape global climate policies rather than remain a passive participant.

“Africa has the resources and the potential to lead in climate solutions. We must advocate for fair policies, mobilize financing, and utilize our own natural wealth to combat climate change effectively,” she said.

Kenyan President William Ruto, commended President Samia for successfully hosting the Mission 300 Summit.

The meeting endorsed the declaration, which was later presented to the African Union Assembly and adopted without opposition.

Beyond climate action, President Samia also championed Tanzania’s initiative on clean cooking energy, highlighting the urgent need to provide safe cooking alternatives for 900 million Africans who lack access to clean energy.

In recognition of her leadership, the AU Assembly named President Samia the Champion of Clean Cooking Energy in Africa, reinforcing her commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions across the continent.
