Govt plans new 100 technical secondary schools nationwide

THE government has unveiled plans to construct 100 technical secondary schools nationwide to equip pupils with essential skills needed in the job market.

Prof Adolf Mkenda, Minister for Education, Science and Technology unveiled the plan here yesterday during a meeting with regional government officials.

In Njombe Region, the new technical secondary school will be built on a 26-acre plot at Magoda Village.

Prof Mkenda said that the government initiates various projects in sectors such as health, education and water, all of which are fully funded to ensure completion and alleviate public challenges.

“We have the opportunity to build vocational schools because technical skills are crucial for development,” he said, encouraging regional officials to highlight the successes of the government, particularly in relation to ongoing development projects.

“The government has initiated and signed agreements to restore the full functionality of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA). We should also focus on improving avocado farming as the infrastructure is enhanced,” he said.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to tuition-free primary and secondary education while it continues to modernise educational infrastructure.

Judica Omari, Njombe Regional Administrative Secretary, said that the regional government has received 58.4bn/- to support education services, including construction of classrooms and dormitories.

Deo Mwanyika, Njombe Urban legislator said that the government has also allocated funds for various development projects, including a 40bn/- water project aimed at addressing water shortages in Njombe town and 27 other urban areas.

Aghata Mfuji one of the residents expressed optimism about the construction of the schools, noting that they will provide youth with essential skills to thrive in the job market and improve their competitiveness for employment opportunities.
