ADVISORS to the executive directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) have begun a five-day visit to Tanzania to gain insight into the country's development priorities and explore how the bank can contribute to initiatives that will positively impact and transform the lives of Tanzanians.

Speaking after meeting the delegation in Dodoma, Amina Khamis Shaaban, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, explained that the visit is part of the annual agenda of the AfDB Board of Executive Directors' visits to member countries in the region.

She noted that in addition to understanding Tanzania’s development priorities, the advisors will also have the opportunity to learn about the country's economic trends, discuss ongoing projects in collaboration with the Bank, and explore existing challenges and potential solutions.

Amina further emphasized that Tanzania’s economy remains robust, with a 5.4percent growth in the first half of 2024, up from 4.8percent in 2023. "This growth has been driven by investments in key sectors such as energy, community development, and transport infrastructure," she said.

She also highlighted that inflation has remained stable, averaging 3.1percent in 2024, compared to 3.8percent in 2023.

Betty Ngoma, leader of the team of experts from the AfDB’s Executive Directors' advisors, stated that the team visited the Ministry of Finance to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s economic development and the strategies employed to stimulate economic growth.

She commended Tanzania for its efforts to strengthen the economy and for effectively managing the implementation of various development projects funded by the Bank.

Ngoma added that the team is in the country to observe the projects being implemented with the Bank’s support in both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, as well as to witness the government's ongoing efforts to boost the national economy.
