SIKONGE District Executive Director, Seleman Pandawe has called on the Ministry of Finance to have sustainable and long-term plans to provide financial education to the public as the move will contribute to the economic growth of individuals and the nation at large.

Pandawe made the call here yesterday when speaking to the team of experts who are in the district to provide financial literacy education to people of various groups, including civil servants and traders.

The series of seminars are part of the implementation of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directives to ensure that every person is aware of all issues related to microfinancial services in the country.

Pandawe stated: “The need for financial education is still needed, we are witnessing our brothers and sisters who are in various areas, especially in rural areas, they do not know about financial management, and most of them hide money under the mattress, to the extent that they are being eaten by ants and they are no longer suitable for use.”

He said that in his district people are doing various economic activities, but the money they earn is not compatible with their lives due to the lack of financial education, including financial discipline such as the best ways of saving and spending as “many people have no culture of saving money they get from their activities.”

Pandawe praised the Ministry of Finance for reaching out to people of various groups to provide them with important financial education, adding that many citizens have incomes but do not understand the best way to spend money.

CCM chairman in Ipole Ward, Deus Evalist, congratulated the team of experts from the Ministry of Finance for reaching them and giving them the important education that will change their way of life in the use of money without having a budget.

Ipole ward executive officer Clementina Kadiko promised to cooperate with her fellow leaders at the ward level to ensure that every citizen gets the necessary education so that they can have productive plans in the use of their money and get rid of themselves economically.

Stella John, public relations and education officer at the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA), thanked the people of Tabora region for fully participating in the seminars given.

“People have shown great cooperation, there are those who asked questions, there are those who answered, but there are also those who gave opinions and advice which we have taken and we will consider it in the next phase," she said.

The Ministry of Finance continues with the exercise of providing education to citizens about small financial services, which is the implementation of the Master Plan for the Development of the Financial Sector for the 2021/2022 to 2029/2030 fiscal years.
