SIMBA are on the verge of finalizing the appointment of a new head coach, a significant move anticipated before the team embarks on their pre-season tour in Egypt.

Ahmed Ally, the club’s information and communication manager, confirmed that the leadership is in the final stages of completing this critical process.

The search for a new coach follows a tumultuous season for Simba, marked by instability and a series of disappointing results.

Last season, the club finished third in the Premier League, fell to Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, and suffered an early exit in the Federation Cup at the hands of Mashujaa FC.

The team’s struggles were exacerbated by the departure of head coach Abdelahak Benchika due to family reasons, which led to acting head coach Juma Mgunda stepping in to guide the team through the remainder of the season.

Ally emphasized the importance of the upcoming appointment, stating: “The position of the head coach will be finalized soon, and we will announce him. We will also be advertising all positions within the technical bench area, not just the head coach.”

He addressed the concerns surrounding the current coaching staff, specifically Mgunda and his assistant Selemani Matola, saying: “I know there have been many questions about Juma Mgunda and Selemani Matola. As of now, they remain our coaches until further announcements are made.

“Mgunda has proven to be a top-class coach, and many are eager to see him officially assigned to the team. We will provide clarity on Mgunda and all other coaching matters in a few days.”

Despite these assurances, credible sources indicate that Mgunda is set to join Coastal Union FC for the upcoming season. Mgunda, a former player and coach for Coastal Union, is expected to return to his former club as they prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup.

In addition to the coaching changes, Simba have undertaken a substantial roster overhaul. The club has parted ways with several notable players, including Shabani Chilunda, Luis Jose Miquessonne, Kennedy Juma, Saido Ntibanzokiza, long-time captain John Bocco, and Henock Inonga. This move signals a clear intention to rejuvenate the squad and introduce fresh talent ahead of the new season.

One of the most significant acquisitions in this transition period is the signing of central defender Lameck Lawi from Coastal Union. The 18-year-old has agreed to a three-year contract with an option for an additional year.

Lawi emerged as a key player for Coastal Union last season, contributing significantly to their fourth-place finish in the Premier League. His addition is expected to bolster Simba’s defense considerably.

Simba’s management is optimistic about these changes and believes that the new head coach, along with the revamped roster, will position the team for success in the upcoming season. The pre-season camp in Egypt will be a crucial period for the new coach to integrate the new signings, establish strategies, and build team cohesion.

The anticipation surrounding the announcement of the new head coach continues to build among fans and stakeholders. Ally assured that the club is committed to transparency and will provide updates as soon as decisions are finalized.

"We understand the excitement and curiosity from our fans. Rest assured, we are working diligently to ensure that we bring in the best possible leadership and talent to lead Simba to new heights,” he said.

As Simba prepare for the new season, the club’s supporters remain hopeful that the forthcoming changes will translate into improved performance on the field. The introduction of a new head coach and the influx of young, dynamic players signal a new chapter for Simba, one that aims to restore the club’s dominance in domestic and continental competitions.

The upcoming pre-season in Egypt will serve as a litmus test for the new arrangements, providing an early glimpse into the potential of the restructured team. Simba’s journey towards rebuilding and reclaiming their status as top contenders in African football continues, with the promise of a fresh start under new leadership.
