YOUNG Africans Sports Club (Yanga) head coach, Miguel Gamondi, has expressed confidence that the almost two weeks remaining before the much-anticipated clash against Simba SC will be sufficient for him to analyze and prepare for his opponents.

The derby, set for October 19 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, promises to be a high-stakes encounter as the two rivals meet for the first time in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League this season.

Gamondi (pictured) acknowledged the significance of the match, noting that while he prepares meticulously for every game, the upcoming clash against their traditional rivals Simba presents a unique challenge. He emphasized the importance of giving Young Africans fans something to cheer about, particularly after their loyal support through both highs and lows.

“I think now the members and fans of Young Africans have regained their happiness after our 4-0 victory against Pamba. The game against Simba is still two weeks away, and we will prepare thoroughly. While we approach every game with seriousness, this is a special challenge.

“It’s time to study them carefully and craft strategies to counter them. It’s going to be a great match, and we want to offer it as a gift to our loyal supporters who always stand by us,” said the Argentine coach.

Gamondi admitted that the derby would not be easy, considering the competitive nature of the Premier League this season. However, he expressed optimism about playing at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, a venue that he believes provides ideal conditions for the tactical plans he intends to implement.

“We will be playing at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, which will make it a good game. It won’t be easy, but we are excited to play there. The pitch allows for a variety of playing styles, and both teams will benefit from that. Our aim is to be fully prepared to secure a win,” he added.

The October 19 clash follows their last meeting on August 8 in the Community Shield semi-final, where Young Africans emerged victorious with a 1-0 win courtesy of a goal by Congolese midfielder Maxi Nzengeli. This match set the tone for the Premier League season, with Young Africans aiming to continue their dominance over Simba.

Last season, Young Africans swept both league fixtures against Simba, winning 5-1 in the first round on November 5, 2023, and securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the second round on April 20, 2024. The upcoming derby will be Young Africans’ chance to extend their winning streak against their fierce rivals.

Young Africans currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League standings, having won all four of their opening matches. The defending champions have collected 12 points, scoring eight goals and maintaining a perfect defensive record, with no goals conceded so far.

Gamondi’s influence has been evident, as he has instilled discipline and tactical awareness in his squad, contributing to their unbeaten start.

For Young Africans fans, this derby holds special significance. The rivalry between Young Africans and Simba is one of the most storied in African football, capturing the attention of the entire nation with each encounter.

The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is expected to be packed to capacity, as fans from both sides eagerly await another thrilling chapter in this fierce rivalry.

Gamondi, well aware of the pressure associated with such a high-profile match, is determined to deliver a performance that will bring joy to Young Africans supporters.

“Our fans have been incredible. They’ve been with us through every challenge, and now it’s our time to repay their faith. We know how important this game is for them, and we are ready to give everything we have,” he said.

As the countdown to October 19 begins, all eyes will be on Gamondi’s tactical preparations. With a two-week window to fine-tune his approach and study Simba’s weaknesses, the Argentine coach remains optimistic about Young Africans’ chances of continuing their dominance.

A win in this derby would boost Young Africans’ title aspirations and reaffirm their status as the top team in Tanzanian football.

Meanwhile, fans from both sides will be eagerly watching every development as the day of the derby draws nearer, hoping their team will emerge victorious in what promises to be another exciting chapter in the Young Africans vs Simba rivalry.
