The Tanzania Gender Networking Program (TGNP) is set to host a special orientation session for journalists on December 28, 2024, as part of preparations for the global commemoration of 30 years since the Beijing Conference.
The session, which will take place in Dar es Salaam, aims to bring together journalists from community radios, print, and digital media platforms to reflect on the progress, challenges, and future of gender equality in Tanzania.
Participating community radio stations include Kwizera FM (Kigoma), Mpanda FM (Katavi), Manyara FM (Manyara), and Kariongo FM (Kilimanjaro). Others are Abood FM (Morogoro), Jamii FM (Mtwara), HFM FM (Mtwara), Dodoma FM (Dodoma), Nuru FM (Iringa), and Highland FM (Mbeya). Additionally, journalists from prominent traditional media outlets such as Daily News, The Guardian, The Citizen, Mwananchi, Nipashe, ITV, Clouds FM, RFA, EFM Radio, and Malunde Blog will also participate.
The orientation precedes a media campaign by TGNP designed to engage Tanzanians in reflecting on key milestones achieved since the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, challenges encountered along the way, and actionable steps for the future.
In 2025, the global community will celebrate three decades since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This landmark framework, endorsed by 189 countries, remains a blueprint for achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide.
TGNP’s initiative seeks to foster deeper engagement on the progress Tanzania has made in realizing the Declaration’s objectives while identifying barriers that continue to hinder gender parity. The session will also serve as a platform to inspire renewed commitment, galvanize political will, and mobilize public support for advancing gender equality as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
As the world prepares for this milestone, TGNP aims to ensure the media plays an integral role in amplifying voices, highlighting success stories, and pushing for action to achieve a more equitable society.
