A police officer and militia within Iringa Municipal Council appeared in court yesterday charged for murder of Nashon Kiyeyeu, a resident of Nyamhanga in Kitwiru Ward.
The accused, police officer F4987 Sergeant Rojas Joshua Mmali from Ipogolo Police Station in Iringa and Thomas Mkembela, a militia were brought before Iringa District Court yesterday at around 1:00 PM under tight security.
State Attorney Damas Sixtus from the prosecution office in Iringa Region stated that the two are facing case number 1880 of 2025.
The duo are accused of carrying out the murder on December 14, 2024, at the Ipogolo area in Iringa Municipality.
The court was informed that investigation is ongoing.
Principal Magistrate Adelina Faustino Ngwaya said the accused were not required to enter a plea because the court has no jurisdiction to preside over the case. Bail was denied and the case was adjourned to February 4, 2025 for mention.
