THE Ministry of Finance yesterday hosted a special tax forum aimed at improving coordination in collection of opinions to enhance tax systems and increase public participation in budget preparation process.

Held in Dodoma, the forum brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including tax experts, consultants, business representatives, manufacturers and members of special interest groups.

William Mhoja, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Fiscal Policy in the Ministry of Finance said the forum was part of a series of regional tax consultations for the 2025/2026 fiscal year which aim to draw opinions and get stakeholders support in the drafting of new laws.

“The forum is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that citizens’ contributions through taxes are acknowledged and effectively utilised for national development,” he said.

He explained that the forum’s primary goal was to gather input from various stakeholders across the country, starting with Dodoma and extending to other regions such as Arusha, Mwanza, Kigoma, Mbeya, Iringa and Mtwara, before concluding in Dar es Salaam.

“All the feedback collected during the forums will be carefully reviewed and researched before any recommendations are implemented,” Mhoja said.

He assured stakeholders that all opinions will be seriously considered, citing previous examples where public feedback was incorporated into budget speeches and policy decisions.

Mhoja encouraged continued participation and urged citizens to contribute their views on tax reforms.

“While some suggestions may require further research before they can be implemented, rest assured that every opinion will be taken into account,” he said.

He also commended the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) and TradeMark Africa for their partnership in supporting the forums, especially sponsoring various activities that facilitate the important discussions.

“This collaboration reflects our collective commitment to promoting economic growth, creating jobs, and ensuring sustainable development,” Mhoja said.

Alexander Mallya, Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Business Community Association urged businesses across the country to actively engage in the forums and submit their feedback on the proposed tax reforms.

The forum is part of the ongoing Regional Tax Forum initiative launched by the Ministry of Finance in November 2023. Previous forums have been held in regions including Mwanza, Mbeya, Arusha, Shinyanga, Kigoma, Lindi and Mtwara.
