Vodacom Tanzania Plc is proud to announce the launch of Vodacom Youth Base (VYB), a dynamic and innovative platform that empowers Tanzanian youths aged between 15 and 28. With a mission to bring the digital lifestyle within reach of the youth, VYB will offer a range of exclusive benefits, from free SMS, discounted devices and bundles, to free mobile money connections—all designed to bridge the gap between the aspirations of young people and the digital tools they need to succeed.
In a fast-evolving digital world, where connectivity and access to technology are critical to unlocking opportunities, VYB is designed to go beyond telecommunications. By joining VYB, young people will not only gain access to discounted communication services but also to life-changing resources such as exclusive promotional deals, learning and upskilling opportunities, and the ability to connect with a network of peers and mentors that will prepare them for a self-reliant future.
The platform’s tagline, "Your Network is Your Networth," embodies the belief that seamless communication, strong internet access, and exposure to growth opportunities can enhance a young person’s potential to thrive in today’s digital economy. Every Vodacom customer within the age range is automatically enrolled, without needing additional steps—ensuring instant access to these life-enhancing benefits.
By using VYB, young Tanzanians will enjoy more than just communication perks. They will have access to career-building tools, growth initiatives, and networking opportunities designed to equip them for a successful and self-sustaining future. The goal is to ensure that every young person, regardless of financial capability, can be part of the global digital transformation.
"We recognize the immense potential that lies within the youth of Tanzania; they are the innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders and change-makers so they deserve a platform that supports their ambitions," said Brigita Stephen, firm’s Commercial Business Director. "With VYB, we are making sure that young people not only stay connected but are also equipped with the resources they need to thrive in the digital economy. This is an investment in their future and in the future of Tanzania."
The VYB platform was launched at the Don Bosco Youth Center, a hub known for its commitment to the empowerment and development of young people. Speaking on the significance of this launch to the youth, Maureen Njeri, Mdundo Country Manager, commended Vodacom’s support to the youth and highlighted the need to cater to the specific needs of young people.
"We are excited to be part of this platform understanding the need to deliver personalized content to users. Mdundo supports youth ambitions as we host over 900 african artists so partnering with Vodacom ensures we reach more youth. VYB is more than just digital access—it provides them with real opportunities to grow, learn, and lead."
Vodacom Tanzania has been committed to driving digital inclusion and empowering the next generation. With VYB, the company aims to ensure that Tanzanian youth are not left behind in the digital transformation, but rather, are equipped with the tools and resources needed to lead the charge.
“Mdundo’s partnership with Vodacom truly proves Pamoja Tunaweza. Since 2020, we have been working together and will continue to work together with Vodacom to bring quality entertainment for youths. Stay tuned for more amazing things upcoming,” she detailed.
Maureen also added that VYB allows Mdundo customers to get easy and legal access to top DJ mixes in Bongo Flava, Singeli, Qaswida, Taarab, Gospel, Afro beats, and Amapiano. “Every day we release new Dj mixes that can be downloaded directly to your phone with the VYB Bundle” insisted Ms Maureen.
“As Mdundo we remain inspired to work with artists and entertainers in Tanzania and put money in their pockets for their hard work. Mdundo has 37.8 million monthly active users and 3.1 million users per month in Tanzania. More than 24,000 Tanzanian artists have created an account on the platform and are making money from Mdundo. We aim to pay out $3.2 billion in royalties to African artists within the next year,” She summarized.
“To get into the platform any Vodacom customer registered with the National Identification Authority (NIDA) and aged between 15 and 28 will automatically be whitelisted and enrolled in the program to ensure a seamless transition so youth can enjoy the benefits of VYB” Concluded Brigita.
