Youthful Taifa Stars squad for CHAN qualifiers announced

THE Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has announced the squad for the upcoming 2025 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Sudan.

The squad is primarily made up of the U-20 national team, Ngorongoro Heroes, that lifted the AFCON U-20 CECAFA zonal qualifiers title last weekend.

Simba goalkeeper Aishi Manula will captain the team while Twiga Stars head coach Bakari Shime (pictured) will lead the technical bench. 

Tanzania's campaign starts with an away match on October 27, followed by a home fixture on November 3. The aggregate winner will advance to the next round to meet either Ethiopia or Eritrea.

Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda are set to host this unique tournament, which is exclusively for players competing in their home countries, from February 1 to 28, 2025. 

As hosts Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenyahave already secured automatic qualification.

A total of 40 nations will participate in the draw to determine the first of two qualifying rounds. 

These rounds will decide the final teams that will compete in the eighth edition of the tournament.

The qualified nations will contest the coveted CAF CHAN trophy that will be accompanied by $2 Million in prize money as per CAF’s 60% increase in the tournament’s winning prize.

The last edition of the tournament was played in Algeria and saw Senegal defeating the hosts in the final to claim their first ever title.
