THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced key changes relating to the 2024/25 inter-club tournament season, including the confirmed number of slots available to each member association.

Tanzania will be represented by Young Africans SC, alias Yanga, and Azam FC in the CAF Champions League while Simba SC and Coastal Union will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The continental football governing body revealed that the 2024/25 CAF inter-club tournaments season, which has the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, will kick off with the preliminary round slated for August 16-18, 2024.

The group stages are scheduled to take place between October and December 2024, whereas both competitions' knockout phases and finals will take place between March and May 2025.

CAF confirmed the 12 highest-ranked member associations, according to the CAF coefficient points, which will be eligible to enter two clubs in the Champions League and as many in the Confederation Cup.

The 12 highest-ranked national associations are Algeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, and Tanzania.

CAF kicked off the registration period for member associations to register their qualified clubs on the CAF Competitions Management System (CMS).

Four registration window periods have been confirmed to all participating member associations as follows - July 1-20 will be used for the   registration of players participating in the Preliminary Round, then from July 21 to August 31 players participating in the Second Preliminary Round. Clubs will, from September 1 to 30, register players that would participate in the Group Stages.

From January 1-31 2025, clubs will be allowed to have a maximum of seven additional players, including four replacements.

This means all Mainland Tanzania Premier League envoys in the continental tournaments - just like other teams from other countries - will register new players signed from the January mini-transfer market.

The Additional Second Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup remains canceled.

Consequently, teams eliminated in the Second Preliminary Round of the CAF Champions League will no longer transition into the CAF Confederation Cup.

Clubs that advance from the Second Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup will proceed directly to the competition's Group Stage.
