SIMBA SC landed safely in Tunisia ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup group-stage rematch against CS Sfaxien, set for tomorrow.
The team, led by head coach Fadlu Davids, is determined to secure all three points to boost their chances of reaching the quarterfinals.
Speaking upon their arrival, Davids (pictured) emphasized the importance of focus and discipline in achieving their objectives.
“We know this will not be an easy match, but we must fight to ensure we win. Our opponents are well-prepared and will be seeking revenge after losing the first match, but we have also prepared to face them,” he said.
The coach added that while their primary aim is victory, they will approach the game cautiously, maintaining defensive discipline while organizing their attacks effectively.
Simba’s Media and Communication Manager, Ahmed Ally, confirmed that the team arrived safely in Tunisia and is in high spirits.
“Every player is motivated and understands the importance of this match. Fans back home should keep the team in their prayers as we aim to surprise our hosts,” Ally remarked.
He noted that players are fully focused on the game, with the team determined to deliver a result that will set the tone for their campaign.
“This is a vital match for us in our journey to the quarterfinals. The outcome will shape our path forward,” he added.
Simba currently shares the top spot in Group A with six points alongside Angola’s Bravos do Maquis and Algeria’s CS Constantine, while CS Sfaxien remains without a point after three matches.
Midfielder Fabrice Ngoma has echoed the team’s desire for a win, highlighting its importance in securing a strong position in the group.
“We need to win this match to strengthen our chances of advancing to the quarterfinals. We made minor mistakes in our previous away match against CS Constantine, but we are determined to correct them this time,” Ngoma said.
He emphasized the significance of the game, describing it as an opportunity for players to uphold the club’s pride.
“This is a tough and crucial match. A win will push us closer to our quarterfinal goal and demonstrate the strength of our great club,” he added.
Simba’s winger, Kibu Denis, who scored both goals in their 2-1 victory over CS Sfaxien at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, remains optimistic. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to achieve positive results, both domestically and internationally.
“Our goal is to secure good results in every match we play. This requires teamwork and determination, which we have demonstrated in past games,” said Kibu, who has been a key player for Davids, featuring in 11 out of 15 Premier League matches this season.
Simba currently lead the Premier League standings with 40 points, just one point ahead of rivals Young Africans SC. Their attacking line has scored 31 goals this season, showcasing their offensive prowess.
Among the 22 players who travelled to Tunisia is winger Elie Mpanzu, who will make his debut for Simba in the CAF Confederation Cup after featuring in three Premier League matches.
Simba recently registered Mpanzu in CAF’s system following the opening of the January transfer window, which runs until January 31.
Mpanzu’s inclusion adds depth to Simba’s squad as they aim to strengthen their performance in the competition. The winger is expected to bring a new dimension to the team’s attack.
Tomorrow’s match is pivotal for Simba, as it provides an opportunity to solidify their position in the group. A victory would not only boost their points tally but also enhance their chances of reaching the knockout stages.
Having defeated CS Sfaxien in the first leg, Simba are aware of the challenges posed by the Tunisian side, especially on home soil. However, with a motivated squad and strategic preparations, the team remains optimistic about achieving their goals.
