TANZANIA's senior national cricket team's assistant skipper Kassim Nassor has expressed confidence in the squad's competence and possibility of winning the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier A now taking place in Dar es Salaam.

The tournament hosts stretched their winning run in the regional showdown after cruising to an emphatic nine-wicket thrashing of Cameroon at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club's venue on Tuesday.

Nassor, speaking after the match, pointed out: "We are in a good place to garner progression to the next phase. We are focusing on the remaining two matches of the qualifiers; if we play well and win, we will certainly lift the silverware."

The senior cricketer added: "Winning the showpiece and making it to the next phase is very important to us, given it is played at home.

"There is no reason for us to lose out on progression to the following phase, given we have undergone good preparations and everything is going very well.”

The spinner noted that the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) and the remaining cricket stakeholders have seen to it that the senior national side undergoes intensive preparations for the regional showdown, therefore, the cricketers have to live up to expectations.

Nassor disclosed that the senior national side came up with a great tactical plan to easily dismantle Cameroon in the Tuesday match.

The assistant skipper noted: "It was a great match. Despite having garnered a comprehensive victory, and ending the clash too early, the Cameroon side isn't that weak."

Nassor disclosed that Tanzania went for a tight fielding to frustrate efforts by Cameroon to end with a bigger total.

The senior national squad, the assistant skipper noted, made it a point to grab wickets early on to weaken the opponents' resolve and, later on, easily chase the modest score.

Tanzania began its quest for securing progression to the Africa Qualifier A's following phase solidly, clobbering Mali by 10 wickets on Saturday.

Lesotho turned into the tournament hosts' victims in the following match, suffering a 122-run loss at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club's venue on Sunday.

In the Tuesday match, Tanzania once again put on their all-around virtuosity show, limiting Cameroon to a mere 37/10 in 12.1 overs after the West African nation's squad took the crease first.

Abdoulaye Aminou was by far the cricketer who sought to make his presence felt, having made his way back with 11 runs.

The other members of the West African nation's team's batting unit found it difficult to withstand Tanzania's bowling challenge, exiting the crease in quick succession.

Promising performer Laksh Bakrania had an impressive outing for Tanzania, when the team fielded, raking up 4-6 in 2.1 overs.

Experienced spinner Nassor, pacer Sanjay Bom, and Harsheed Chohan compounded Cameroon's batting woes, posting two wickets each.

In response, Abhik Patwa-led Tanzania chased the 38-run target with ease, losing one wicket in a mere three overs.

Youthful cricketer Mohamed Omary led the smooth chase-posting 13 runs not out from six balls.

Patwa and Zafar Khan, the familiar opening batting pair, chipped in with 12 runs apiece and completed the commanding nine-wicket win.

Tanzania, marshalled by Patwa, is continuing to showcase dominance in the regional showpiece.

The pursuit of progression to the next phase of the qualifiers was slated to gain momentum yesterday as three fixtures were set to be played.

Cameroon was slated to lock horns with the in-form Malawi at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) ground in the afternoon.

Malawi, one of the showdown's favourites, is boasting an impressive unbeaten run and was once again set to go all out, seeking to stay on course for securing a spot in the main qualifiers.

Lesotho - which has yet to notch victory - was handed an opportunity to bounce back with a clash versus Mali at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club's ground.

Tournament hosts - also enjoying an unbeaten spell - were slated to lock horns with Ghana, which was eyeing a resurgence, at the UDSM ground.
