DEPUTY Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Denis Londo has praised the long-standing cultural and trade ties between Tanzania and Iran which have led to an increase in interactions between traders in the two countries.
He made the remarks yesterday during a reception celebrating the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and Iran’s National Day. The event was held at the residence of the Iranian ambassador in Dar es Salaam.
The event was attended by senior government officials, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, business leaders and members of both the Iranian and Tanzanian business communities.
Londo reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and commended the recent Iran-Tanzania Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) which was held after nearly two decades.
He described the commission as a major step toward boosting economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Londo called it a “golden opportunity” to unlock the full potential of business and investment partnerships between the nations.
Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tanzania, Mohammad Nikkhah, highlighted the significance of the Islamic Revolution as one of the most pivotal movements in modern history.
He emphasized two key achievements of the revolution: the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the emergence of a global discourse advocating justice, independence, and resistance against oppression.
Nikkhah outlined Iran’s transformation over the past 46 years, noting that under the leadership of Imam Khomeini and with the unwavering support of the Iranian people, the revolution successfully introduced a unique model of Islamic democracy. Despite external challenges, Iran has evolved into an independent, technologically advanced, and knowledge-driven nation.
Regarding Iran’s foreign policy, Nikkhah reiterated the country’s commitment to multilateralism, emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation with all nations, particularly African countries. He highlighted Iran’s membership in global organizations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and D-8, reflecting Tehran’s strategic approach to international engagement.
The event concluded with camaraderie and optimism, as guests engaged in discussions on future collaborations. The celebration not only honoured the legacy of the Islamic Revolution but also marked the beginning of a new chapter in Iran-Tanzania relations, promising stronger cooperation and shared prosperity in the years ahead.
