Ex-premier voted as Julius Nyerere Leadership School board vice chair

FORMER Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda has been elected as the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School (MJNLS) vice chairman of the inaugural governing board in the maiden meeting held in Kibaha over the weekend.

On top of Pinda, David Makhura, the Secretary of the South African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) in charge of Political Education and Training was elected MJNLS board chair for the coming three years.

Speaking to members of press at Kibaha kwa Mfipa area in Kibaha District, Coast Region over the weekend, MJNLS, Prof Marcelina Chijoriga, said Pinda and Makhura were chosen for the goal of tapping their skills in leadership with Makhura offering his youthful and energetic leadership while the retired PM offering his higher political leadership and civil service experience spanning four decades in the country.

 “For two days beginning Friday through Saturday last week we held the school's inaugural board meeting where representatives from former liberation movements in Zimbabwe(ZANU-PF), Mozambique(FRELIMO), Namibia(SWAPO), Angola(MPLA), South Africa(ANC), Tanzania(CCM) and China’s (CPC) convened in Kibaha among key businesses was to elect the Board Chair, Vice Chair Committee members, chart out the school strategic plan, discuss and approve the academic calendar for August-December 2024 and the July-December 2024 budget.

In the meeting Comrade Makhura was elected Board Chair while retired PM who doubles as the ruling CCM, Central Committee (CC) member Pinda was elected to fill the Vice Chair slot.

Besides electing the two top board leaders, the inaugural board meeting discussed and passed the school academic calendar to cover the August-December 2024 period, the budget to cover the December period,, and formed various sub-committees to help run the school as per the school charter.

School Committees formed and authorized the Academic Affairs and Operations Committee(AAOC), Planning and Finance Committee(PFC), Audit, Governance and Risk Committee(AGRC), Human Resources and Remuneration Committee(HRC), and the Academic Affairs and Operations Committee( AAOC).

Besides the newly elected board chair and vice chair respectively, the Chinese-built Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School board members are Bendita Lope, a central Committee member with FRELIMO, Dr. Frederico George Miranda of MPLA who heads the Policy and Cadres division at the party headquarters in Luanda, Dr. Charles Mubita, a seasoned Journalist and former Director General at the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) who doubles as SWAPO Central Committee and the Politburo Member and  Dr. Meshack Mpande Sibanda, of ZANU-PF of Zimbabwe.

MJNLS is charged with the role of training and moulding middle and higher-ranking party leaders for the six parties with close support from the Communist Party of China(CPC).
