THE Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Major General Paul Simuli has said that construction of the Tanzania- Uganda Crude Oil pipeline project is progressing well and remains on schedule for completion.

He made the statement yesterday at the conclusion of his inspection tour on the pipeline infrastructure, which extends from Hoima in Uganda to Chongoleani in Tanzania, with a particular focus on the Tanga Oil Terminal.

He expressed his satisfaction with the project’s progress, noting positive developments in both Uganda and Tanzania.

“I have visited all areas from Kagera to Tanga and am genuinely impressed with the progress made. For instance, in Handeni at Misima, pipe-laying has already commenced. The pace of work is commendable, and I am confident that we will complete the project as planned,” Ambassador Simuli said.

The envoy urged contractors working on the Tanga section of the pipeline and those involved in the Oil Receiving Terminal at the Port of Tanga to accelerate their efforts to ensure they meet the project's deadlines.

“I encourage you to increase your efforts to match the progress observed in Handeni. It is essential that all sections advance at a similar pace to ensure timely completion. I have full confidence in your abilities, and with this momentum, we will achieve our goal on schedule,” he emphasised.

Residents of Chongoleani Ward also expressed their appreciation for the project, noting its positive impact on employment and crime reduction in the area.

Ally Mohamed, a resident and fruit vendor in Chongoleani, highlighted that the project has provided numerous job opportunities for young people in the ward.

“We are very thankful. Our youth are now employed, and those who haven’t been directly hired have started businesses due to the increased operations in the area. We truly value this project,” Mohamed added.
