LOCAL government authorities should not issue tenders to companies and individuals without an established budget as this leads to complaints, the ruling party has advised.

Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, the CCM secretary general, issued this appeal at a meeting with Meatu residents in Simiyu Region, where concerns were raised about unpaid funds owed to individuals contracted by the district council.

One resident said he had not received more than 30m/-since 2012o for work taking much larger sums to be completed, to which the party secretariat executive said if there is no budget, council officials should not award contracts as this creates unnecessary challenges

 He then requested Ambakishe Mwangalaba, the acting executive director, to address the matter, who confirmed that the district council owes contractors a total of 800m/-.

The sums have remained unpaid for an extended period, he stated, while the party leader noted that the challenge was part of a broader effort to push development projects in most areas.

He said that during his visits to 18 regions, he has observed significant levels of transformation, citing Katavi, Rukwa, Mbeya, Songwe, Njombe, Ruvuma, Geita, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Singida, Manyara, Arusha, Mwanza, Kagera, Lindi, Mtwara, Kigoma, and Simiyu regions.

“Major projects are underway in every region, and the people have expressed their support for President Samia Suluhu Hassan for another five years,” he declared.

He pointed at progress in Simiyu Region where over 400bn/- was allocated for a project to supply water from Lake Victoria to the region, while 48bn/- will be used to build a substation.

A total of 49bn/- will be allocated for establishing an electricity distribution network, he further noted.

Itilima MP Njalu Silanga told the gathering that the constituency has received 83bn/- for development projects, including a 4bn/- model road.

Upwards of 15bn/- was allocated for a water project in the constituency, he stated, appealing to the government to strengthen cooperatives to stimulate development and create jobs, particularly for the youth.
