Govt emphasizes on digital economy development

The government has pledged to do everything possible to promote the information and technology (IT) sector as part of ensuring that the country is going to rapidly develop the digital economy.

The government has promised to reach all Tanzanians, the aim being to ensure that no Tanzanian will be left behind in the IT sector.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Jerry Silaa made the statement at the end of the weekend when he participated in the presentation of IT awards for the year 2025 to approximately 50 winners on behalf of the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Program who had other national duties, representing the President, Dr. Samia Solution Hassan.

He commended the establishment of the awards, saying that they will help stimulate innovation in IT issues and promote the IT sector in the country, which is important in the digital economy.

"The Honorable President Samia Suluhu Hassan has always given instructions to ensure that we implement the national Digital Economy Strategy for ten (10) years, therefore, we would not like to leave even one stakeholder behind, we must work together to ensure that our IT sector develops," he said

He instructed the IT Commission to ensure that the Awards are sustainable and are held every year with professionalism and high standards to attract more stakeholders to participate.

The awards organized by the Information Technology Commission (ICTC) in collaboration with the SoftVentures, the Tanzania Internet Service Providers Association (TISPA), gave the opportunity to 380 participants to present their professionally filtered work and verified by the Deloitte International Company which has been responsible for providing advice and management in the award evaluation process.

Initially, introducing the awards and welcoming the guest of honor, the Director General of the ICT Commission, Dr. Nkundwe Mwasaga said the aim of the commission to give these awards is to motivate people to do good innovations in IT issues in the country.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mohamed Abdullah called on the ICT Commission to ensure that next year the process of the awards will be better and involve more stakeholders.

Some of the winners of the awards including, Nafidh Ally Mola, a first year student of the Computer Science course at the College of Financial Management (IFM) Dar es Salaam said the awards he received will inspire them more in their creative work as they have given them respect in the community.

Participants of the ICT awards competed in the categories of Innovation in IT Products or Services, Best Use of IT, IT for Community Development, Successful Youth in IT, Women in IT, IT Security, IT Project for the Public Sector, Sustainable IT, TISPA Awards for the Best Internet Connection Service Provider and so on.
