Exim Bank Tanzania proudly invites all Tanzanians and stakeholders to unite for a critical and unique cause: Mental Health. As we celebrate 27 years of dedicated service to Tanzanians, Exim Bank is excited to introduce the Exim Bima Festival 2024, themed 'Amsha Matumaini'. This event is scheduled to take place on September 28, 2024, at the Gymkhana Grounds in Dar es Salaam.

This festival is more than just a celebration; it is a powerful call to action for every Tanzanian to increase awareness, show support, and take concrete steps toward improving mental health care in our country. With mental health challenges on the rise, the Exim Bima Festival 2024 offers a special opportunity for individuals, organizations, and various sectors to come together and raise funds aimed at making a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by mental health issues.

Exim Bima Festival 2024 is a key initiative under Exim Bank Tanzania's 'Exim Cares' program. This year's festival is not only about raising awareness of the importance of insurance in our society but also focuses on enhancing access to mental health services and improving the overall well-being of Tanzanians nationwide. Exim Bank has set an ambitious goal to raise TZS 300 million over the next three years, funds that will be directed towards essential services and infrastructure upgrades in mental health facilities.

"Mental health is not just a medical issue; it’s a social one. Those affected are our family members, friends, colleagues, and community members. Together, we can change this narrative. The Exim Bima Festival 2024 is more than a gathering for fun and entertainment; it is a mission to raise awareness and transform the lives of Tanzanians," says Stanley Kafu, Head of Marketing and Communications at Exim Bank Tanzania.

Kafu adds, "By coming together, we break the silence, remove stigma, and build a society that prioritizes mental health, ensuring that those affected receive the care they need when they need it. Join us as we Awaken Their Hopes."

This festival promises a variety of exciting entertainment for both adults and children, ensuring a day filled with joy, sports, and thrilling competitions. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in games, enjoy entertainment, and, most importantly, come together to make a difference in the lives of many Tanzanians.

Why care? Mental health affects us all. The Ministry of Health has reported a staggering 82% increase in mental health cases over the past decade. Cases have risen from 386,358 in 2012 to 2,102,726 in 2021, making the need for mental health services more urgent than ever. Unfortunately, Tanzania’s ability to address this growing challenge is hindered by a shortage of mental health professionals, infrastructure, medical equipment, and essential medication.

Out of the 28 regions in the country, only five have facilities that provide adequate mental health services. The most affected group is the youth aged 15 to 39, who represent the nation’s workforce, underscoring the need for intensified efforts to safeguard this generation for Tanzania’s future well-being and development.

Exim Bank’s initiatives are in alignment with the Tanzanian Government’s broader goals to ensure that every citizen has access to quality healthcare, including mental health services. By improving mental health services, Exim Bank aims to contribute to the creation of a network of communities that can access care quickly, affordably, anytime, and anywhere across Tanzania.
