DCB Bank Plc donated 30 desks worth 6mn/- to Msisiri 'B' primary school as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes for the year 2024.
Speaking at the handover of the desks at the school yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Sabasaba Moshingi, DCB’s Chief Executive Officer said that the bank has planned through its CSR programme to donate 1,000 desks to primary schools in Dar es Salaam.
Msisiri Primary School 'B' has been the first to receive the donation in the program.
He said that the bank, which currently has nine branches, one in Dodoma and eight in Dar es Salaam, was established in 2022.
Moshingi said that since its inception, the bank has provided low interest loans to more than 500,000 beneficiaries worth 250bn/- with 80 percent of the beneficiaries being women and youth.
Since the beginning of this year, the bank has issued loans worth 10bn/- while setting a target of extending loans worth 50bn/- for the next five years.
Tatu Mkali, Principal of Msisiri 'B' primary school said the school was established in 2005 with 154 students of standard one and two with seven teachers.
"Currently the school has enrolled 516 students from standard one to standard seven and 12 teachers. Students’ performance in national examinations has been improving year after year," said Mkali.
Mary Msuya, Acting Education Officer Kinondoni Municipality said that Msisiri 'B' is one of the 84 primary schools in the municipality.
She hailed the bank for the donation of desks that will improve the teaching and learning environment for students.
"This donation of 30 desks makes this school have a total of 130 desks after the municipality has already provided 100 desks and expects to hand over another 100 desks when the construction of new classrooms is completed," said Msuya.
Songoro Mnyonge, Mayor of Kinondoni Municipality and Councilor of Mwananyamala Ward said that he said the bank was established for the purpose of providing low interest loans to the residents of Dar es Salaam at low interest.
He asked other banks to donate to the school so that it has a friendly infrastructure for learning.
"We congratulate DCB for continuing to give dividends to all councils. The bank has been providing humanitarian aid to special groups including orphans," said Mnyonge..
