ZANZIBAR Minister for Tourism and Heritage Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga has said that the upcoming Tourism and Investment Expo set for later this week will further enhance the isles’ status as a premier destination for tourism festivals.

Scheduled for October 25 and 26, the exhibition’s main objectives are to promote Zanzibar as a key tourism destination, connect industry stakeholders and highlight available investment opportunities.

Speaking during the Zanzibar Traditional Cuisine Show yesterday here, Soraga expressed confidence that the upcoming tourism festival would draw participants from various countries, including Germany, France, the United Kingdom and several neighbouring nations.

“This underscores how Zanzibar’s reputation is growing as more people see the value in coming here to explore opportunities and promote their businesses,” he said.

He emphasized that the ministry is dedicated to promoting a range of festivals, recognising them as vital economic opportunities.

The focus on culinary tourism was highlighted as particularly important, given that traditional Zanzibar cuisine offers a unique attraction.

He noted the need to reconnect with local food traditions as eating habits have shifted due to the influence of Western cuisines.

“It’s essential to return to our roots with traditional foods that are not only delicious but also healthy,” he said.

Zanzibar Tourism Commissioner Wilfred Shirima underscored the festival’s importance in promoting the region and attracting tourists from around the globe.

He pointed out the diverse investment opportunities available in Zanzibar, including beach tourism, ecotourism, historical tourism and cultural tourism.

Dr Mwatima Abdallah Juma, Director of Msonge Farm which focuses on organic fruit and vegetable production, highlighted the growing interest in organic farming within the tourism market.

“Tourists are eager to learn about traditional foods and their preparation,” she said.

Dr Juma also mentioned that they offer practical classes for tourists visiting organic farms, encouraging local farmers to take advantage of opportunities in the tourism sector through organic practices.
