Tanzania is set to host the prestigious Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam on January 27 and 28, 2025, drawing high-profile leaders and experts from across the continent and beyond.

In light of the summit, the government has announced that public sector employees in Dar es Salaam will work from home on these dates, except for essential services whose work environments do not allow.

A statement from the Office of the Chief Secretary, Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, revealed that the summit is being organized by the Tanzanian government, the World Bank (WB), and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The summit will be attended by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, 24 African heads of state, 21 representatives of African nations and governments, six heads of international institutions including bank presidents, representatives from the Rockefeller Foundation, and five development partners. Additionally, a total of 2,600 participants, both local and international, have registered for the event.

“Given the high-profile nature of the summit, several key roads in Dar es Salaam will be closed as announced by the Police Force. To avoid disruptions caused by these road closures, the government has instructed public sector workers in Dar es Salaam to work from home,” the statement highlighted.

The statement further noted that, banks will remain open, and business operations at Kariakoo Market will continue as usual. Hotels and restaurants will also stay open.

Private sector employers in Dar es Salaam are advised to allow their employees to work from home or implement arrangements that will prevent challenges related to road closures.
