Stakeholders in the energy sector have emphasized the need to involve major players in clean energy production to address the frequent power outages that are disrupting industrial growth and hindering economic development.

At a meeting in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, Tarak Jani, Deputy General Manager at Clarke Energy, pointed out that power outages are severely affecting industries' ability to produce goods efficiently and cost-effectively, ultimately slowing the nation’s economic progress.

He stressed that these disruptions are a significant barrier to scaling industrial production and providing affordable products to the market.

Jani called for collaboration between the government, energy stakeholders, and industry leaders to implement sustainable solutions.

“While Tanzania has the capacity to generate power, the challenge lies in ensuring consistent and reliable delivery to industries,” he noted. “Frequent power interruptions reduce production efficiency, leading to financial losses and undermining the global competitiveness of Tanzanian products.”

Tanzania’s vast natural gas reserves, estimated at 57.54 trillion cubic feet, are seen as a potential solution to the energy crisis. However, experts argue that despite the country’s power generation potential, the key challenge remains in the effective distribution of energy, which continues to cause inefficiencies and operational setbacks for industries across the country.

Jani explained that Clarke Energy is already playing a crucial role in supporting industrial production by providing advanced energy solutions, including natural gas-powered power plants.

Through partnerships with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Clarke Energy is helping to strengthen Tanzania’s energy infrastructure.

Jani also highlighted the company's commitment to building local capacity by offering training to industries on how to maximize the efficiency of their natural gas power plants, including how to recover heat, steam, and cooling from exhaust systems to reduce carbon emissions.

“We are committed to taking concrete steps to improve Tanzania’s energy sector by collaborating with organizations like TANESCO and TPDC to ensure a reliable electricity supply for industries, communities, and institutions,” Jani added.

Emile Hamman, Clarke Energy’s General Manager, reinforced the company's dedication to enhancing Tanzania’s energy sector.

He clarified that while Clarke Energy does not directly generate energy, the company provides essential equipment, technical expertise, and after-sales support to ensure that energy systems function effectively.

“For example, we have facilitated natural gas energy production at the Somanga power station in Lindi Region,” Hamman explained. “As we expand our services to key industrial hubs like Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Arusha, we are confident that working with TPDC to improve gas distribution will significantly boost the availability of clean energy to industrial players.”

Hamman also emphasized that Clarke Energy is staffed by Tanzanians at every level of the company, from senior management to technical staff, demonstrating the company’s commitment to fostering local expertise and contributing to sustainable development in Tanzania.

Clarke Energy’s efforts were lauded by one of its clients, Manoj S. G., Group CEO at Lodhia Industries Limited, who spoke about the successful installation of a 5-megawatt (MW) power plant. Despite initial doubts about the feasibility of their energy requirements, Manoj praised Clarke Energy for their dedication and persistence in delivering a solution.

“Clarke Energy’s team went above and beyond. They installed analyzing machines to assess our load demands and other critical factors. After a week of monitoring, they proposed a tailored solution that has significantly improved our operations,” said Manoj.
