MEMBERS of the public have been urged to help the government identify people who engage in violence against people with disabilities as the country prepares for General Election next year.

The call was made here yesterday by the Founder and Chief Executive of Albinism Awareness Foundation (AAF), Suleiman Magoma, noting that while the government is doing all it takes to prevent such vices, individual members of the society also have a big role to play.

He also appealed to parents of children with disabilities to give them opportunity to learn and participate in everything just like their able-bodied colleagues.

Magoma made the remarks while presenting donations to a cross-section of people with disabilities in Dodoma city.

During the event AAF through friends and well-wishers donated food stuff, drinks, clothes, sunscreen, sunglasses, crutches, telescopes and sanitary pads to different groups of PWDs, including those with albinism.

“We appreciate the government’s efforts in protecting people with disabilities, including those with albinism but the society should not relent in the fight to reveal perpetrators”, he said.

Speaking at a brief event held at Viwandani Secondary School in the city,  Magoma said his organization annually holds the event in support of the less fortunate members of the society, especially those with disabilities.

He expressed gratitude to those who supported him to realize the goal of touching other peoples’ lives saying: “I am grateful to those supporting this noble initiative to help make the less fortunate members of the society feel loved and supported, especially at the year-end festivities”.

Tanzania Federation of Disabled People’s Organisations (SHIVYAWATA) Dodoma Region Secretary Justus Mwantalima, expressed gratitude to AAF, saying the donation came at the right time when some people with disabilities needed it most.
