The Chinese Embassy in Tanzania has praised The Guardian Limited (TGL) for its dedication to ethical journalism and impartial reporting during a courtesy visit to the company's headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, made these comments today as she led a delegation from the embassy on an official visit to the media organization.

The Ambassador highlighted that TGL has set a remarkable standard in delivering accurate, fair, and balanced reporting, which is crucial for fostering mutual understanding and promoting development.

"The Guardian Limited has consistently offered professional coverage of China-Tanzania relations and global issues. I commend your impartial and balanced approach, which is vital for nurturing mutual understanding and strengthening diplomatic relations between our nations," she stated.

She also noted that a significant milestone in China’s trade strategy occurred last year when President Xi Jinping announced the implementation of a zero-tariff policy on key imports.

The Ambassador further emphasized the strength of the partnership between the two countries, pointing to Tanzania’s exports of high-quality agricultural goods like cashew nuts and honey to China, as well as major infrastructure projects, such as the Magufuli Bridge and the expansion of Dar es Salaam Port.

Jackson Paulo, Deputy General Manager of TGL, expressed his appreciation to the Ambassador and her team, stressing the importance of their partnership and reaffirming the company’s commitment to continued cooperation.

"We are truly grateful to the Ambassador and her team for their visit to The Guardian Limited. We highly value this gesture and look forward to future collaboration in a spirit of cooperation that will further strengthen our partnership."

Wallace Mauggo, Managing Editor of The Guardian, praised China’s significant contributions to infrastructure development in Tanzania, underscoring the importance of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) in driving economic growth and improving connectivity between the two countries.

"China’s considerable support in infrastructure development has been crucial to Tanzania’s progress, with TAZARA acting as a key driver of economic growth. This strategic partnership not only enhances regional connectivity but also promotes trade and movement between Tanzania and Zambia, which is essential for our mutual prosperity," he stated.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Tanzania, a relationship first established by the late President Julius Nyerere, founder of the United Republic of Tanzania and a passionate Pan-Africanist, alongside Mao Zedong, a prominent Marxist revolutionary and the founding leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the People's Republic of China.
