Airtel Tanzania has today handed over Airtel internet routers to 50 public schools situated in Rombo, Kilimanjaro, cementing the telecom’s devotion to enhancing digital learning across Tanzania.

The donation of the routers is part of Airtel’s flagship initiative in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) dubbed the Airtel SMARTWASOMI, designed to bridge the digital divide and empower public schools with access to online educational resources.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Regional Business Manager at Airtel Tanzania, Stephen Akyoo, commended the Government of Tanzania for promoting partnerships with the private sector to advance education.

“These new 50 Outdoor Unit (ODU) routers will elevate digital education in the area by enhancing accessibility of educational resources that are found online. The Airtel internet service is connected to our Airtel SMARTWASOMI initiative that equips teachers and students with digital tools to stay ahead in today’s evolving educational landscape,” said Mr Akyoo.

On his part, Teacher Adam Ally representing the Regional Education Officer expressed his gratitude to Airtel Tanzania for its continued efforts to improve the education sector as he emphasized the critical role partnerships play in addressing challenges in education.
