The Head of State made the remarks in Dar es salaam today February 8, 2025 during a joint summit of Heads of State and Government of the EAC and SADC.
President Samia said the prolonged crisis in the DRC has severely impacted neighboring countries, endangering lives, destroying property, and disrupting cross-border trade, hence the urgent need for a lasting solution.
"As regional leaders, history will harshly judge us if we continue to stay silent and watch the situation worsen day by day. Our countries share a collective responsibility to bring this conflict to an end. This summit aims to ensure a lasting solution to the crisis and to restore peace to the Congolese people who have endured unrest for many years,” she said.
She added: "Tanzania is deeply concerned and closely monitoring the situation in eastern DRC. My country supports ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the DRC crisis and calls on all parties involved to engage positively in these peace talks, considering the interests and well-being of their people.”
She also highlighted that DRC, a member of both EAC and SADC, continues to face a prolonged crisis whose effects have spilled over to neighboring countries, causing harm to human lives, property, and even cross-border trade," she said.
For the past several weeks, we have witnessed the escalation of the conflict, with increasing violence that has had devastating impacts on people’s lives and livelihoods, she noted.
We must ensure that this meeting bears fruit. I urge all of us to unite in our struggle to preserve peace, which will pave the way for accelerated development, she stressed.
