SUGAR Board of Tanzania (SBT) Director General Prof Kenneth Bengesi has urged sugarcane farmers in Kilombero to use skills acquired at the just-ended Sugarcane Farmers Day and exhibitions in tackling challenges affecting their farms.
Prof Bengesi made the call recently at the closing of the three-day Kilombero sugar cane farmer’s exhibition, which was held in Kilombero District, Morogoro Region.
“I understand that sugarcane farming has been experiencing a lot of challenges. However, during this year's exhibition, a lot of experts have been here for the last three days giving solutions on how to go on modern farming. I call upon you to use the skills you have acquired here to tackle your challenges and increase your productivity,” said Prof Bengesi.
He added: “I appreciate your participation in this year’s exhibition which has made these exhibitions successful. The knowledge and skills which you have acquired here will only be useful if you apply in solving daily challenges that you meet at your farms.”
The Kilombero Sugar Cane Farmers Day started with an open dialogue where farmers had an opportunity to discuss their challenges and ways to resolve them. It was followed by a three day exhibitions which included a wide range of farming equipment, quality seeds, proper fertilizer usage, and various methods for disease and pest control in sugarcane crops.
